SKI AND RIDE SCHOOL MANAGER
JOB SUMMARY:
SilverStar is located within the stunning Okanagan Valley and is part of the POWDR Group. The Ski and Ride School Manager will lead a team of ski and snowboard instructors, management and support staff to provide instruction, guiding hospitality and fun to the diverse demographic represented at SilverStar by offering a dynamic selection of instructional and clinic/camp products.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee a team of managers, supervisors and support staff to run program operations and provide service, oversight and direction to staff members.
- Delegate so that the management team runs operations smoothly.
- Plan and oversee the recruitment and training of new instructors and scheduling staff each year. Ensure smooth assimilation into the school.
- Plan and provide retuning staff training and updates each season.
- Plan and implement ongoing technical, service and risk management training for staff. Innovate with external resources and timing to motivate staff participation and ongoing improvement.
- Work closely with other resort departments to provide the following
- Human Resources: follow company practices for hiring, training, development and disciplinary actions. Ensure the management team are trained in protocols, practices and SOP’s.
- Monitor and evaluate performance (together with management team), provide ongoing coaching to enhance individual employee development and guest satisfaction.
- Consistently enforce all SilverStar policy and procedures, ensuring efficiency and fair operation.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures specific to Ski and Ride School. Ensure alignment with the company policies.
- Ensure systems of staff recognition are developed and utilized. These include individual staff recognition and team recognition.
- Marketing and Group Sales: work with the Marketing Department to develop and implement marketing tools.
- Finance: develop and maintain a budget that aligns with resort overall financial goals.
- Develop a pay structure that supports overall budgetary frameworks while incentivizing staff appropriately.
- Maintain accountability for efficiency through revenue/labour reporting and monthly P&L.
- Document expenditures as per company protocols.
- Risk Management: maintain a safe work environment: locker rooms, offices, learning terrain.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of all Mountain School office space, locker room and all SilverStar assets (including uniform and radios).
- Focus on accident prevention and train employees in proper safety procedures.
- Take immediate and appropriate action to correct unsafe work practices and facilities.
- Provide proper training for child safety including policies and procedures for protection.
- Provide policy and training for proper interactions with guests via phones and social media.
- Administration: build and refine programs that provide for the efficient purchase and registration experience for SilverStar guests.
- Implement and ensure efficient and effective use of systems to aid with online sales, on site sales, staff scheduling and other staff administration.
- Direct, monitor and support staff scheduling, instructional assignments and pay administration for Ski and Ride School employees.
- Ensure efficient and effective payroll management to ensure staff are paid correctly.
- Guest Service: provide the highest levels of service to guests and staff of all backgrounds and experience.
- Utilize and mine guest service survey data for feedback and continual improvement in staff training and program enhancements.
- Utilize survey data to coach, correct and recognize staff.
PLANING & VISION:
- Evaluate existing and create potential new Ski and Ride School programs and lesson offerings.
- Evaluate lesson prices/packages to more accurately reflect competitive ski resorts in order to attract and retain business and grow revenue.
- Work closely with other SilverStar departments to plan future facilities, terrain modifications, marketing programs and technological improvements to enhance the guest and staff experience.
INTERACTIONS:
- Direct and continuous contact with guests, co-workers, management and other departments.
- Contact with schools and district offices within the catchment area to schedule school programs.
- Maintain close ties to CSIA/CASI/CANSI/CSGF through ongoing dialog and participation in events/training.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma
- College degree in a related field is preferred. Additional related work experience may be substituted for education.
- 4 years of job-specific work experience with demonstrated competence.
- Must be a minimum CSIA /CASI Level 2.
- Must be able to attend a maximum of seven paid days per season at CSIA/CASI courses and/or exams hosted at SilverStar if required.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Candidate should be energetic, confident and highly motivated when working with staff and others.

- Have a strong and proven understanding of policies and regulations regarding working with children.
- Be familiar with computer operating software and systems used in Sli and Ride School operations.

Supervisor – Adults

Job Objectives:
Part-Time Adult Supervisor CASI/CSIA Level 3 or equivalent:
- Cover Adult Supervisors days off for daily on-snow operations of Adult Programs
- Cover Adult Supervisors days off for
directional effectiveness of Adult Staff
- Work closely with Adult Supervisor, Operations
Manager KC, both Technical Directors of Skiing and Snowboarding for Adult
staff
- Cover Adult Supervisors days off and manage Adult group and
private and special programs for class deployment from all meeting points
- Oversee the daily operations of the Adult skiing and snowboarding Private and Group programs
- To be on the snow, observing lessons, monitoring staffs performance, helping instructors, when and where you can, to be on the snow
- Manage the day-to-day functions of the Locker room, staff usage, safety, and security
- Be a leader in delivering an unsurpassed guest experience for visitors to Big White Ski Resort
- Create an environment consistent between the Kid Center and Adults that promotes a positive culture, and we are one Ski & Board School
Staffing:
- Work with our scheduler for adult staff for daily programs, weekend and special programs, helping get the right person to do the best job
- Create an environment that allows for the managing and promotion of a positive culture within the Ski & Board School
- Work with all members of the Ski & Board management team to develop and maintain regular communication to all staff
- Work with Adult Supervisor with building and maintaining open and honest communications with all staff
- Work with Adult Supervisor and both Technical Directors to schedule and assess Adult staff for mid and end of season reviews
- To monitor group lessons, for splits, when the opportunity arises, join a group and at the end of the lesson provide the instructor with your feedback. Your job is to know the strengths and opportunities of your instructors
- Work with Adult Supervisor on managing staff incidents, issues and document any disciplinary or termination of staff when required
- Work with Adult Supervisor to develop opportunities to grow Adult revenues while looking for means to streamline processes to help reduce cost
- Work with Adult Supervisor for Team building within Ski & Board
School, plus provide input with the organizing of Ski & Board School special
events
- Provide recommendations for improving current product offerings, provide analyses for such improvements for increase effectiveness and profitability
- Work with Adult Supervisor for the management of all Adult related
correspondence with clients on incidents, managing the information flow from
all departments (Ski Patrol, Guest Services, client’s feedback) to create a concise,

Mt Seymour is located in North Vancouver, just 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver and is known as Vancouver's place to learn to ski and ride. Our Snow School provides a fun and inclusive atmosphere in which to work. Instructors are responsible for providing a great learning experience to our guests, a large proportion of whom are children.
We offer competitive wages and instructor incentives, as well as a range of industry perks and resort discounts. We also provide regular instructor training sessions to help develop our team.
These are seasonal full-time positions (30-40 hours per week), and 4-6 days a week (extra work during peak operating periods). You will be employed to teach guests to snowboard according to the standards of the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI) in a safe and fun environment. Instructors are expected to always behave in a professional manner as they are dressed in uniform and are role models for all guests and staff. Instructors are expected to be available to work weekends and holidays, these being our busiest periods.

Snowboard GAP Trainers
Big White Ski & Board School is looking for experienced, CASI Level 3 instructors for teaching GAP Programs and staff training.
Big White Ski & Board School is looking for experienced CASI Level 3 certified instructors; preference given to candidates holding their Level 1 or higher examiners status. If you aspire to join a strong team of trainers, we are looking for you to join our team for the 2023-2024 season. This is a seasonal, full-time position.
Trainers will be providing training on the following two Ski & Board programs:

Our GAP programs runs mid-January to the third week of March, Monday to Friday. The trainer’s day consist of up to seven (7) hours per day.
The goal of the GAP program is training the participants using the CASI methodology for teaching and skiing to the standard required for them to complete both the CSIA Level 1 and 2 courses.
Additional Duties and responsibilities include:
- Teach snowboard lessons following both the CASI teaching methodology and the Big White Ski & Board School’s progression levels
- Teach clients and demonstrate quality lessons at the ability level of your students
- Always working with safety in mind to safeguard guests and fellow workers
- Plan lesson content to create a safe and fun learning experience
- Evaluate instructors lessons at scheduled times, provide written and verbal feedback on did well and do better for staff evaluations
- Ensure effective public relations and problem solve as required
- Work cooperatively and maintain ongoing communication with other program trainers and staff
- Take appropriate action to deal with incidents and emergencies as outlined in Ski & Board School’s policies and procedures
- Attend all paid training sessions
- Be seen as a role model by the Ski & Board School instructors, foster an approachable, open level of communications
- Help to promote Ski & Board School programs
Position Requirements:
- Minimum, CASI level 3, holding CASI level 1 course conductor certification or higher is an asset
- Previous experience in training of instructors or GAP participants
- Previous snowboarding instructing experience and working in organized settings from a established resort setting are definite assets.

- CSIA – Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance certifications
- CASI – Snowpark or Canadian Freestyle Ski Association certifications

JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Teach private, single-day group, and multi-day lessons to adults and children in a variety of lesson programs
- Provide customer service: greeting guests, assist students in rentals, hosting school groups, and lesson wrap up
- Provide safe learning environments by demonstrating good Class Management and following the Alpine Responsibility Code procedures
- Maintain timely documentation including daily class cards and incident reports
- Assist with Special Events as required
- Maintain teaching areas including set up and take down: fencing, signage, and shoveling.
- Maintain a safe work environment by following the Health & Safety program and by attending Meeting each shift
- May include training and supervising staff depending on certification level and experience
QUALIFICATIONS
- CSIA/CASI Level 1 instructor (or foreign equivalent)
- Ability to work well with both children (ages 3+) and adults
- Professional, reliable, punctual, and a willingness to learn
AVAILABILITY
- Full time availability: 4-6 days per week including weekends, evenings, and Winter Holidays
- Part Time 1 – 3 days/evenings per week and some shifts over the Christmas holidays
- Start/End Date: late November - early April (weather and business volume dependent)
- Length of employment is dependent on seasonal operations
- Regular availability during the Winter Holidays is a requirement for employment
